My meatball appetizers

Although this site is about fast easy dinners, this is the holiday recipes page, and because holiday eating is so often in the form of appetizers at parties and family get togethers, I'm including appetizer recipes here too. smile

Ingredients:
  • 1 lb Hamburger

  • 1/2 lb Italian Sausage
  • 1/3 C bread crumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 C finely chopped onions
  • 1 pkg spaghetti sauce
Directions:

Mix the first 5 ingredients together for meatball mix. Prepare the spaghetti sauce to package directions and add 1/4 cup to meatball mixture, reserving the rest for dip. Season to taste with pepper and salt. If desired, you can add 1/3 tsp chili powder for a spicier taste.

Mix all ingredients thoroughly and roll into meatballs in large gum ball size pieces. Place the meatballs in a large microwave dish.

Put wax paper, paper towel or lid on the microwave dish and cook until done, in my microwave it takes 15 minutes. Remove from microwave pan and drain thoroughly.

Heat the spaghetti sauce in a large sauce pan and roll the meatballs in the sauce to coat, then remove them from the pan.

At this point, you can let them cool and freeze for up to 3 months before thawing and serving to your guests.

When you are ready to serve, skewer each meatball with a decorative pick. Place your bowl of heated spaghetti sauce in a bowl, place bowl on plate lined with dark greens and place meat balls around the bowl.

VARIATIONS: You can skewer a cheese tortellini on the end of each meatball for another tasty addition or cook lasagna noodles, cut lengthwise and cut to fit around each meatball for a spaghetti and meatball appetizer.

TIP: Decorative picks are expensive, so try making your own, which is much cheaper.

Sounds good... and looks so festive, Teres. Wishing I had a holiday party to take these too. :( Oh well, maybe I'll just make them for the family for Christmas Eve or something. Thanks again!
