Macaroni and cheese... who doesn't love it? OK, my ex-husband didn't... but then he didn't like cheese... weirdo!
But anyway... I've always loved mac and cheese, but I don't always have time to make it from scratch. So my recipe gets a little bit of a jumpstart by using boxed macaroni and cheese. OK... that might be cheating, but it does make it possible to throw together my meal much more quickly.
Still, if you're a purist, you can go from scratch...
Ingredients:
1 box of mac and cheese mix
1 ham steak, cut into bite-sized pieces
1 cup of frozen peas
Fresh ground black pepper
Bread crumbs
2 T. unsalted butter
Directions:
Prepare the mac and cheese recipe according to the box directions. Then, mix in the peas and ham. Season to taste with black pepper. Top with buttered bread crumbs and bake for 15 to 30 minutes at 375, till bread crumbs are golden brown and casserole is bubbly.
This is a family favorite for a satisfying casserole. If you like macaroni and cheese, adding ham and peas to it can only make it better!
