Recipe management software to help the cook stay organized

Cookbooks make great gifts for cooks, but if you're looking for something a little different, why not consider recipe database software? After all, cookbooks can only hold so many recipes... and a cook can only find room for so many cookbooks... but a CD or two to load into your laptop that holds thousands of recipes?

And the other great thing about these cookbook and recipe software programs is that they're more than just a database of existing recipes. You can also enter in your own recipes and then manage the whole kit and caboodle... search for recipes, print recipes, share recipes by email... even print out family cookbooks of your favorite recipes!

The Best Recipe Software Programs

If you Google "recipe management software", you'll find tons of programs. But how can you know which ones are best? By continuing to read this page and follow the links of course! Smile

I've done the work for you... I have researched and tried what's out there and the recipe organizer software you'll find below are the ones I think are your best choices when picking gifts for the cook on your list.

On all of my gift pages, you'll find links to where you can buy the products I suggest online. Most of the time, I DO receive a small commission if you decide to buy the product through my link. But you can rest assured I only recommend gifts that I would want to own myself (or that I already do). That's my promise to my readers!

If you click through on the image or the recipe management software title, you can read more details about that program. On those detail pages, I'll also tell you where you can sign up to buy this gift for the cooks on your list. Enjoy your shopping!

Here are what I believe to be the best recipes software programs that you can learn more about:

Living Cookbook
This recipe management software program's been around awhile, but they keep making it better! Like a cookbook, it provides lots of new recipe inspiration, but in addition, you can add your own recipes to the collection and then organize the whole lot. You can also create shopping lists, menu plans and even choose specific recipes to go into a cookbook of your own. Living Cookbook also allows you to import recipes from the Internet and from other recipe database software. I own this one and I love it!

MasterCook
This is another of the most popular recipe management software programs and has been around for years too. I think I used one of the earliest versions at least 10 years ago. Like the others here, it supplies you with thousands of recipes, which you can customize in a number of ways, plus you can upload your own. Recipes can be organized into meals and menus, and produce shopping lists. Nutritional analysis and healthy substitutions will help you cook healthier recipes.

I tried to find a third product to recommend here and I couldn't come up with one I felt that enthusiastic about, so I decided it would be better to stop with two. I recently heard about a DIY solution to recipe database management that I think has real promise. If it works out (I'm testing it now), I may develop a how-to manual to teach other cooks how to do it. So follow me on Facebook or Twitter, so you'll be the first to know when I put out the manual (both links are in the sidebar).

Recipe management software is a great gift for any cook who loves to collect recipes... and how many of us don't? Smile
